Five Wedding Planning Tips for the Newly Engaged

Five Wedding Planning Tips for the Newly Engaged

Congratulations on your engagement! Now that you’ve decided to tie the knot, it’s important to make the appropriate preparations to ensure your wedding planning goes as smoothly as possible. To help you along, I want to offer some of my favorite tips to newly engaged couples for planning their Big Day!

#1. Timing is everything

After the initial high of getting engaged settles down a little bit, the first thing you should do is decided when you want to get married. Once you decide on a date (or small timeframe), you’ll know exactly how long you have until your wedding and be able to begin setting deadlines for yourselves. Those deadlines will be crucial to maintaining your schedule and your sanity. There’s nothing more frustrating than realizing it’s too late to do this or do that. If you remember your deadlines and stick to them the best you can, you’ll have a much easier time.

#2. Know your budget

Knowing how much money you have to spend on your wedding is just as important as knowing how long you have to plan it. While money isn’t always a “fun” or “exciting” topic to discuss, it’s a must-have conversation. But knowing your budget’s size isn’t all there is to it; you also need to decided how much you’re willing to allocate to specific items. That’s where research comes in.

We strongly recommend not making any immediate decisions about any of the whats, wheres or hows of your Big Day right off the bat. Doing research is absolutely essential to staying within your budget, but also what the latest trends, styles and fashions are. Research is your best friend during the entire planning process.

#3. Share the experience

We know it’s obvious, but it’s important to remember this is not a journey you’re embarking on alone. A lot of couples leave the majority of the planning to one spouse or the other, but this doesn’t work for everyone. Treat your wedding planning like you plan to treat your marriage, as a shared experience. Getting input from your future husband or wife will not only help smooth the process out a little, but keep you organized so you can have some fun, too!

#4. Just be cool

Pardon the pun, but wedding planning isn’t always a piece of cake. You will come across a bump or two in the road, but that’s OK and to be expected. It’s how you react when something doesn’t go as planned that makes a huge difference. Keeping a cool head will keep you from losing your mind and will also help with making decisions about your Big Day.

#5. Ask for help

In addition to “being cool,” it’s important to remember that it’s OK to ask for help. Some couples think they can do it all on their own, and while that may be true, a little assistance goes a long way.

We hope these tips help you get your planning rolling. Good luck, and remember you can contact us if you have decor questions along the way!
