Spring Lookbook ’17

Spring Lookbook ’17

Hello, spring! You’re looking mighty fine this wedding season.

Spring is here at last and with it the new seasonal trends.

For the past few months we’ve been hard at working helping our clients craft stunning on- trend looks and we thought we’d put together some looks of our own that encapsulate some of the best spring 2017 has to offer.

We caught up with Kristen Porchia for some insight into six of her favorite seasonal looks and for some planning and design tips on what’s hot this spring.

Concrete: The Copper Has It

“Metallics continue to be on trend,” says Kristen. “Last season rose gold was really strong; this season we’re seeing a move towards copper.”

Copper gives radiant impact to our “Concrete” table design, featuring lustrous chargers, the copper-threaded plateware and the playful Moscow Mule guest favors. The same tone is picked up by the vintage-toned peaches, lemons, oranges and limes of our Concrete table linen.

“Metallic colors and textures also tie in beautifully to other elements such as terrariums, which will be hugely popular all through summer. They’re great accent pieces you can hang or place on the table and they’re available in a range of different shapes, sizes and materials.”

Terrariums have strong architectural lines which contrast with the soft florals, succulents, air plants and candles they contain, creating visual impact and table defination.

“We’re also seeing a shift towards new seating options. Planners, couples and corporates want more than just a chair cover or chiavari,” says Kristen. “The Chameleon chairs seen here are simple and versatile. They can be tied into different designs and the pad color can easily change to fit any color skeme. Here their metallic finish has been paired with the patterns on the china and the stationery.”

Koyari: Pull Up a Pillow

“Soft seating and seating alternatives are huge this spring,” says Kristen. “We’ve just launched a new range of fantastic pillows that are perfect as accent pieces: to tie in color and texture, or to use as seating in their own right.”

In this design, called “Koyari,”, a bright array of pillows create a fun alternative to seating and encircles a lowered table topped with our bright boho-chic “Koyari” linen.

“It’s not just the seating that’s changing, but the tables as well. Rather than the traditional round table, we’ve used a long table that guests sit on either side of. This creates a different guest dynamic and also lets us craft engaging table centerpieces that run the entire length of the table.”

These centerpieces are increasingly about variety and “knickknacks”, with visual interest being the key to detail. Here lanterns, pillar candles and dramatic mercury glass candleholders provide soft uplighting for an intriguing variety of floral arrangements abloom with dramatic pinks, purples and blues. Wicker chargers, ruffled china, seamist napkins and keepsake fruit-filled basket favors lend a bohemian vibe to each setting.

“Unique elements are very important. We’ve incorporated things like a sculptural deer head with gold antlers and gold sculptures spelling out ‘love’ in sign language. It’s a great way to incorporate metallics while tying in with the theme. Everyone wants the unqiue coffee table details that represent who they are,” says Kristen.

Perfect Poppy: For The Love of Florals

Spring and florals go hand in hand and there’s no better way to enjoy nature than in a rustic farmhouse setting.

“Our Perfect Poppy table linen creates a vibrant backdrop for a vintage country setting,” says Kristen. “We’ve combined it with an on-trend captain-style table and classic farmchairs draped with garlands of greenery as a unique way to incorporate florals.”

The table is adorned with dozens of country cottage-themed details including antique books, wire-wrapped mason jars and lace birds that together create endless talking points. Stunning wildflowers gather in vases and spring from a deconstructed whiskey barrel centrepiece.

“We also took a different approach with the table setting. Rather than china and chargers we opted for made-in-Michigan cutting boards that pay homage to the home state of Chair Covers & Linens and Top That Event. The lilac faux dupioni napkins, menu cards and escort cards are arranged across these as though they’re being personally presented to the guest.”

Ariel: The World Is Your Oyster

“We’re seeing a lot of chic, crisp tones this season, especially around plateware and glassware,” says Kristen. “This look, called ‘Ariel’, features dramatic white colored glassware, stemless water glasses and square, dimensional china. It’s modern and stylish while still being fun.”

The look is built upon a four-person seating design, a reflection of the increasing demand for tables of different shapes and sizes.

A backdrop of white velour and teal duchess satin draping with fuchsia uplighting provides a stunning setting for an eye-catching yet understated look that incorporates our Ariel linen in sequined and lace aqua overlay and white duchess satin linen.

“The stationery here is quite striking, with oyster-shaped seating cards featuring a central pearl and pink menus that feature laser cut mermaid tail scalloping,” says Kristen. “The pink organza bags contain sugared almonds as a way of acknowledging the importance of tradition in an otherwise very contemporary setting.”

Tying in with the china and glassware, a series of white vases take center stage with an asymmetrical, vase-spanning floral arrangement of bear grass, palm leaves, calla lilies and orchids.

Bahama: For a Balmy Occasion

“We’re seeing a lot of requests for elegant white and ivory mixes this season. You can see the result in the ivory velour draping and chiffon swag of this look, called Bahama,” says Kristen.

Visually interesting trinkets are once again a key element. Here seaside-themed items such as coral, fish sculptures and seaglass catch the eye from a nearby bookshelf that extends the look beyond the table itself.

Chiavari chairs draped in white chiffon tied with seashell adornments encircle a table draped with our costal-inspired Bahama linen. Gold oyster chargers, driftwood escort cards and bengaline moire napkins tied with seaglass napkin rings give each setting a uniquely ocean-themed aesthetic.

“We are getting requests and love incorporating textured glasses and marbles at the moment and we’ve ulitized them here in the form of table numbers made from sliced agate and long-stemmed votives containing seaglass,” says Kristen.

The look is topped-off with a beachy arrangement of roses, wheatgrass, willow and cabbage wrapped with shells and driftwood.

Velvet: A Classic Made Contemporary

“Traditional never goes out of style,” says Kristen. “The demand for classically chic is always there it’s just a matter of designing a look that appears traditional without being old-fashioned.”

Dramatic and upscale, the gold velvet linen and ivory Polynesian lace overlay on our Velvet look evokes tradition while capturing today’s take on lace.

“The plateware and glassware used here is decorated with gold for an elegant, glamorous look that oozes luxury while also tying in with the decorative glass trend.”

Complementing the glassware is a grand dolce vase encircled by smaller bud vases which forms a dramatic centerpiece. A cascading profusion of white orchids tea roses and shimmering crystal creates an opulent photo-worthy moment.

“The sweeping look of the centerpiece ties in with the opulent chair covers with their rich chocolate bows. We get requests for a variety of seating types, but there’ll always be a place for the traditional chair cover, which can look very chic when paired appropriately,” says Kristen.”
