How to Lower Your Wedding Budget

How to Lower Your Wedding Budget

We’ve already told you how important it is to know and stick to your wedding budget. It not only makes the planning process a little easier, but it ensures you and your fiance won’t stretch yourself too thin. There are times, however, when you might want to splurge on one aspect of your wedding over others. The question is, how can it be done without expanding your budget? Yes, it can, you just have to trim a little off the top of your budget. Here’s how to do it.

Do it yourself

The do-it-yourself (DIY) movement has really taken off in the past few years. Websites like Pinterest and Etsy are treasure troves full of great DIY ideas for your Big Day. Just do a search for “wedding ideas” and you’ll be amazed what you’ll find. But in addition to adding a fun and personal touch to your décor, doing some DIY crafts can save you on your wedding budget.

Instead of hiring someone to create the centerpieces for your reception, you can make them yourselves. You’ll be surprised how much you can do with a few materials. Also, another great way to save is to print your own invitations. Printing costs add up quickly, but if you print them yourself, you’ll not only save money, but also have complete control over when they are completed.

Limit the bubbly

One of the heftier expenses at weddings is the cost of the food and beverages, and one drink in particular is more expensive than the rest. Instead of offering bottomless champagne at your reception, you might want to consider limiting it to only the toast. That way, you will know exactly how many bottles you’ll need to purchase.

Use in-season flowers

Many of the traditional wedding flowers are available all year round, but there are some more seasonal flowers like peonies and lilies of the valley that are a challenge to find out of season. In addition to being hard to track down, out-of-season flowers are very expensive. By choosing flowers that are currently in season will help you save a little bit of money, which can leave room for something else.
